Position: Special Education Assistant Coordinator
Reports to:  Special Education Coordinator
Evaluated by:  Special Education Coordinator
Contract Length: 215 day contract
Location:  District Special Education Offices

 

Qualifications:  Meets Arkansas licensing requirements for special education teacher; Prefer administrative experience or coursework; working knowledge of SEAS program, understanding of Special Education and Related Services procedural requirements and program standards; must be able to work closely with a variety of staff, parents, and other stakeholders.

 

Position Summary:  The Special Education Assistant Coordinator will work with special education teachers, paraprofessionals, and other team members to help facilitate determination of appropriate special education and related services for identified students.  The Special Education Assistant Coordinator will assist the LEA with other duties as assigned.

 

Job Description:  The Special Education Assistant Coordinator shall perform all job functions and assume all responsibilities in the job description.  These include, but are not limited to:

  • Collaborating with school psychologist for all evaluations and reevaluations and ensure meeting of timelines
  • Assist with scheduling and determining needs of transfer students
  • Assist LEA with monitoring of all due process paperwork for the district
  • Act as co-designee at assigned meetings as determined by LEA
  • Assist LEA with state reports and budgets
  • Help conduct FBAs and develop behavior plans as needed
  • Collaborate with special education staff in implementation of inclusive practices
  • Assist with planning and implementing Professional Development including PLCs      

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

 Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general counseling periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of students, teachers, administrators, parents, and the general public.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, table, or schedule form.

 

 

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to counseling program; ability to plan and implement individual and group lessons based on district and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned. Ability to use appropriate language and accompanying techniques with adolescents on one to one basis as well as in groups. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents; skill in oral and written communication.
